Stitching Story Featuring Local Stitchers Janice & Karen

Janice

  • When did you start cross stitching? First started embroidery when I was in girl scouts when we embroidered our emblem on our scarfs. Didn't get back in to cross stitch till the 80's. My mom would send us cross stitch Christmas ornaments every year.

  • What was your first piece you finished? I started this hummingbird years ago but just finished it about 6 or 7 years ago. Footprints in the Sand I stitched about 10 years ago.

  • What does Cross Stitch mean to you? I like to change the patterns and challenge myself. Choosing colors that I want to use in my home. Never used linen before and now that is all I use.

  • What is your favorite finished piece? I couldn’t pick just one so I brought a bunch but I love this “O Holy Night Nativity by Stoney Creek” I just love the variety of animals and details with the baby Jesus.

  • How many projects do you have going at one time? I have 4 going right now.

Karen

  • When did you start cross stitching? I didn’t start counted cross stitch till a few years ago. But I did stamped cross stitch, about 40 years ago.

  • What was your first piece you finished? This stamped cross stitch “The best thing to spend on your children is time.”

  • Why did you choose cross stitch? I just wanted to learn how.

  • What is your favorite finished piece? This stamped basic embroidery mushroom, which I changed the colors and added different stitches to.

  • What do you love about cross stitch? I love the way it looks, especially when on linen, it looks so real.

  • How many projects do you have going at one time? I try to not have more then 2 going at one time.

I want to thank Janice and Karen for sharing their stitching stories with us.
