Introducing New Designer Meridian Designs

We are so excited to announce that Embroidery.com is Now caring Meridian Design.

I got to sit down with the Karen the Designer for Meridian Design and ask her a little about her line of designs.

When did you start designing?

About two and a half years ago. It was really a lark really, I’d been doing plastic surgery on all my friends designs for a while. We'd been doing a round robin with some bikini, and I decided to give each one a individual one. Leslie from Under the Sea Fabric showed it to the owner of her LNS (Local Needlework Store), who said “Why isn’t she designing this?” Leslie then messaged me saying “Why aren’t you designing this?” and I thought “Why am I not designing this?” So I started with the bikini. But my real love is the bigger, artistry Ladies. I like doing the fun stuff but I like doing the more romantic ones too.

So many different Bikini do you have now?

I want to say around 29.

Do you have a favorite?

Right now my favorite is Germany and my Newest one is Kissing Fish. But the ones that people seem to like the most are July, Santa Baby and the Super Hero / Wonder woman.

So tell me more about the Ladies, they are beautiful. Do you have a favorite?

Ummm Each one of them has a little piece of my heart, when I draw them and get them to the point where I am happy with the finished product.

Right now I have two different series that I have in the works. The first is the Dreamweavers those are my babies. I heard an old song from like the 70's “Dreamweaver” and it just got me thinking and swaying. And theses Dreamweavers just kinda came in to my head. I just imagined these ladies spinning through space weaving their dreams.

They each have a little story. And I wanted to do a mix of Brown Hair, Red Hair and Blonde all different colors. I pictured different dancers. I looked at dancers flying through the air and drew them up and there they were.

Then you have the Pheasant series.

What happened was I went to a petting zoo around Halloween. And they had these birds. I caught one out of the corner of my eye and what are those colors? OMG it was a bird, it was a Golden Pheasant. And I could not believe the vibrant, amazing mix of colors in real life in these birds.

I thought I have to do something with that. I did some more research and found that there are so many different types of pheasants with the most amazing colors and patterns of feathers.

You completely captured them with these two ladies. What do you have in the works right now?

I have another one that is being model stitched right now. She is my Magnum-Opios she has taken me so long to be happy with how she is designed. I've also got something out of my normal style. It is more cutesie its going to be a holiday type thing. I'm going the the Needlework Galleria in St. Charles Mo this September. So hopefully I will have some new stuff then.

So from the time you think of a design till the time your happy with it... How long?

Some of them if I catch the flow, I can go from sketch to design in the computer to ready to be model stitched in a month. But... If I cant catch the flow, if something about it is not working for me I may have to step away from it for awhile. The Sister of the Pheasants took me more then a year. She went through 3 phases.
